The First LUNAR Festival of Lights Transforms Sofia into an Open-Air Art Gallery between 6-9 May

Hyatt Regency Sofia is one of the emblematic buildings in the capital which will be transformed into works of art.

The first edition of LUNAR Festival of Lights will be held in Sofia between 6th and 9th May 2022. The event will transform the capital of Bulgaria into a big open-air gallery, in which local and international artists will present their high-tech art. Organizer and main artistic collective behind the project is the Bulgarian visual effects studio MP-STUDIO, in partnership with one of the most popular light festivals in the world Festival of Lights International Productions GmbH. The event will be held with the support of the European Parliament in Bulgaria, the representative office of the European Commission in Bulgaria and under the patronage of the Chairman of Sofia Municipal Council Georgi Georgiev.

During a walking tour in the city center, audience will be able to explore the well-known city in new light. Through 3D mapping shows, light projections and sculptures, LUNAR festival will tell stories, provoke imagination, and drive the attention to the new trends in digital art. Thirteen of the iconic facades, parks and squares will “come to life” on all four nights between 8:30 pm and 00:00 am. The festival will be with free entrance for all citizens and guests of the city.

Artists from four countries will turn the facade of Hyatt Regency Sofia into a portal to different cultures, united under the theme “divARTsity”. Among them will be the Australian artist Nick Azidis, the Bulgarian MP-STUDIO, the Indian Knownsense Studios and the legendary Frenchman Thierry Noir – the first graffiti artist to paint on the Berlin Wall in the 80s of the last century.

"We are thrilled to be part of the first LUNAR festival and to support the talented young people from MP-STUDIO. We can't wait to see how our hotel comes to life, conveying the message of the strength and freedom of being different, accepted and appreciated for who you are. I believe that the festival is not only a great opportunity to interact with our guests and visitors but will also contribute to the popularization of the destination and the development of cultural tourism in Bulgaria," said Laurent Schauder, General Manager of Hyatt Regency Sofia.

Young people will have the opportunity to gain new knowledge in the area of the contemporary audio-visual arts, during the free trainings, organized as part of the festival and hosted by Hyatt Regency Sofia. On May 7 and 8, Bulgarian and international experts will share their knowledge in the field of high-tech audio-visual arts. The creation of 3D mapping, exciting animations, music through artificial intelligence and the art of night photography will be just some of the topics of the LUNAR training program. Registration for the workshops is now open at https://lunarlights.eu/workshops/.
